My life · confirmed dates and honest approximations

My life so far.

I am fourteen, so this is obviously not a finished story. Pick an age to see what changed. Some parts are lovely, some are medical, and some are difficult. All of them belong to the same life.

I arrived without a cry, but not without anything to say.

I was born in Kluczbork, Poland, without both vocal folds.

I did not lose a voice. The folds that normally create one never formed. My hearing is normal, and language has never been the missing part. I communicate by writing, typing, signs, gestures and a speech-generating tablet with a donated voice.

This is where I am now, not where the story ends.

If any of this is happening to you

You are allowed to tell someone.

Parts of this page describe harm that happened to me when I was small. If you are reading because something similar is happening to you, these places can help, and none of them require you to speak out loud.

  • One adult who has never let you down

A teacher, a school counsellor, a coach, a neighbour. Written on paper counts as telling.

    Hand them a note

I told an adult by writing it down because that was the only route I had. Writing counts. So do typing, signing or pointing at a sentence someone else wrote.
